I started my education in Pakistan. My parents immigrated to Canada when I was in grade 11 and I got to experience the BC grade 11 and 12 curricula. I then went on to complete my Bachelor's Degree in International Relations at Simon Fraser University. I felt privileged that I had the opportunity to compare the education systems of two vastly different academic structures. This made me want to help other international students integrate in the Canadian education system. After I graduated from SFU, I worked as an application consultant at International Student Connection. I helped international students with Canadian university application processes. During this time, I tutored English as a Second Language (ESL). I joined AKILI Tutoring in 2017 and started to assist elementary school children with Mathematics K - 7, Reading and Writing . I am fluent in English, Urdu, and able to communicate in; French, Hindi, and Punjabi. Having an academic and multilingual background, I am fully aware of the challenges students face. Therefore, my approach is to make lessons fun and engaging. In an environment where students feel supported and empowered.

 I am a chemistry graduate student at Simon Fraser University and serve as a teaching assistant for the chemistry department, teaching undergraduate chemistry-related courses during class and tutorial sessions. I started my educational career in Ghana, where I completed high school and obtained my bachelor’s degree. One thing I am very proud of about myself throughout my educational journey is that I have always been among the best students in my classes. I have experience in teaching from elementary school to university level and I consider this as one of the most important experiences after high school and up to my university career. I started teaching elementary school mathematics and science after completing High School. During my undergraduate studies, I was teaching Math to highschool students during vacations. Before I joined SFU in 2023, I was a chemistry tutor at the Technical University in Ghana. In the fall of 2023, I was a Teaching Assistant for a chemistry course with one of my friends who is also a graduate student. During quiz time, my students were doing better than her students to the extent her students started switching to my class. She approached me for help, and I told her that I am always available for my students and that all my students have my email address and I encourage them to send me questions outside of class time. My passion is to inspire and motivate students to reach their academic goals. I work on building student confidence and ensure my students feel comfortable approaching me with their problems and concerns. My students trust my teaching style and flexibility. At AKILI, I look forward to helping students stand out strong in their academics.

I graduated from Langara College in during pandemic with an Associate Degree in Computer Science. I have been accepted at UBC for my Bachelor Degree. I started tutoring in grade 12 where I helped my classmates with Pre-Calculus, Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. After I started college, I kept working as a part time tutor and taught first and second year Computer Science courses and Mathematics. I have always been passionate about helping people. I am very patient which helps me make special bonds with children. I can teach in English, beginner level French and Farsi.

My journey in education started at home in Tanzania, where I honed my teaching skills by assisting my siblings to excel in their studies. This experience was complemented by my role as a peer tutor at school, where I assisted my classmates in understanding math and science concepts. My approach to tutoring is based on figuring out the best way to explain new concepts to students as each individual has their own way of learning. Now based in Canada, I am an International master's student at the University of British Columbia majoring in Geomatics in environmental management. I’m excited to continue hands-on experience and inspire students to achieve their academic goals in mathematics and sciences.

I lived in Russia until the age of 15, at which point I moved to Vancouver. I finished high school and began my post-secondary education on the North Shore. I have always had a passion for helping people. Tutoring has been an outlet for that passion for me. I started tutoring my peers when I was in grade 8. Since then I have had 8 years of experience in the field, both working with my University and with tutoring companies. My approach to tutoring stems from the fact that I want to help grow students' confidence in their own skills. To achieve this, I ensure that students truly grasp each concept they are learning. Doing so allows them to understand that they are capable of working with the concept even after they leave the tutorial. 

Hobbies: Biking, hiking, volleyball, roadtrips.

 I moved from Iran to Canada with my family when I was in grade 4. I attended Capilano Elementary school, however, in the evenings my mom homeschooled me the Iranian curriculum and I gave the end of the year exams for all the subjects until grade 9! After grade 9 I spent the majority of my after school time on sports, choir, and schoolwork, especially when I joined the IB program. I attended West Vancouver Secondary School, where I joined the Pre-Diploma Program in grade 10 and then part IB meaning I had IB English Higher Level (HL), Geography HL, Math HL in grade 11 then Math Standard Level (SL) grade in grade 12. Since graduating from high school, I have graduated from SFU with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology, with a focus on Active Health and Rehab. I have over 6 years of tutoring experience with two different tutoring companies, started when I was in grade 9, in which I primarily taught English and Math from K-12. Through years of experience, I have gained invaluable skills that make me excellent at teaching. I am very patient, positive, and goal oriented. I can help students overcome any challenges one step at a time, while building excellent work habits and confidence in the student.
